The VERIFY method in six steps

1. V

   Verify the value

   Start with one workflow that genuinely matters and measure what AI changes there. Not in promised hours, but in lead time, error rate or queue length. Without that number every scale-up is a bet, and that is exactly where the 95 percent with no effect comes from.

2. E

   Establish the standard and the rules

   Write down what is allowed, what is not, and what is allowed under conditions, and who checks it. For a public body this pays twice: it is the basis for article 4 and the answer to the council or the regulator.

3. R

   Redesign the work and the roles

   AI bolted onto an existing process quietly disappears. Redesign the workflow, name who does which step and who takes the decision. This is the step most organisations skip, and it is where the effect comes from.

4. I

   Invest in coaching

   One training changes nothing. What does work: internal champions who help colleagues in the flow of work, with time actually freed up for it. They are also your evidence that literacy sits in the work and not in an attendance list.

5. F

   Front it from leadership

   If the board and management do not use it themselves and do not talk about it, it stays a project of the IT department. Visible participation is not symbolism here; it decides whether people dare to work differently.

6. Y

   Yield lasting capability

   Measure again, record what changed and put it into the regular cycle: training plan, procurement, annual report. Only then is it capability rather than an incident.
